Artist biography

Pedro Versteeg is a Lisbon-based visual artist who graduated in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. His artistic path has led him to participate in exhibitions, events, and residencies across several international contexts, including Lisbon, Hong Kong, Barcelona, Miami, Macau, Paris, Tokyo, Tenerife, and Australia.

His work has also extended into illustration, with contributions to two published books exploring the relationship between animals and humans. Through a practice that moves between painting, drawing, ceramics, and installation, Versteeg has developed a visual universe deeply connected to nature, urban culture, and the fragile balance between human and non-human life.

Artist Practice

Versteeg’s practice has developed into a multidisciplinary body of work across paper, wood, glass, canvas, ceramics, and site-specific installations. Combining spontaneity with technical precision, he works with oil, acrylic, majolica, and ceramic processes, allowing each material to shape the rhythm and character of the final piece.

Inspired by close observation of wild flora and fauna, Versteeg creates compositions where animals, plants, and hybrid beings inhabit vivid and often immersive environments. His work reflects on ecological fragility, pollution, animal trafficking, biodiversity loss, and the increasing scarcity of natural resources.

Through a distinctive visual language and a sensitive approach to materials, Versteeg questions the human impact on the natural world while inviting viewers into a universe where beauty, tension, and environmental awareness coexist.
